Session Overview:

This session will provide an overview of the Office of the Inspector General. It will also provide information on the OIG's auditing process while sharing information about hospice pharmacy audits. 

Meet Our Presenters:

Kari Engelke, CFE

Kari Engelke is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and an Assistant Inspector General with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), Office of the Inspector General (OIG). With over twenty years in the human services field, Kari has spent the last 12 years working for DHS focusing on service quality, program integrity, and leadership. In her current role in the OIG, Kari is the section manager for the Program Integrity and Compliance Section (PICS) providing leadership to a team of auditors who ensure program integrity in Wisconsin Medicaid. Provider types under PICS’ purview include pharmacy, durable medical equipment, disposable medical supplies, labs, hospitals, nursing homes, transportation, county programs, and Managed and Long Term Care.  

Nate Svaglic

Stanton Nate Svaglic has been with the State of Wisconsin Department of HealthServices Office of the Inspector General for almost nine years. Nate came to OIG with a pharmacy background and has since grown to supervise and act as a project manager for the Managed and Long Term Care team and the Pharmacy Team. The team is responsible for protecting the tax payers of Wisconsin by preventing, detecting, and investigating fraud, waste, and abuse in the public assistance programs administered by the Department of Health Services. They use a variety of proactive and reactive tools to audit, educate, and investigate an ever-growing and dynamic landscape of fraud, waste, and abuse. Their outcomes range from administrative claw backs to credible allegations of fraud. They also support program integrity efforts through contract and policy review to ensure both DHS and providers comply with federal and state rules and regulations. During his time with OIG, Nate became a Certified Program Integrity Professional through courses and testing offered through the Medicaid Integrity Institute.
